About the artists & their designs

Back in September 2024 I was walking past a vintage clothing shop on Burnside Ave in Portland and spotted two remarkably familiar items prominently on display, cycling jerseys from past editions of Cycle Oregon’s Classic ride. I snapped a quick photo to send some friends on staff and thought how cool it was that of all the trending items in store these two jerseys were put front and center. A couple days later they were gone, sold and back on the road.

Cycle Oregon’s event jerseys can be as iconic as the rides themselves, and our fans wear them proudly year after year as a reminder of the good times and the mission we serve. For 2025 we are over the moon with the designs from three talented Oregon-based artists. Let’s take a closer look at the designs and the artists who created them.

GRAVEL

The Jersey – The Henley-Cut jersey from Primal Wear is made from sustainable Echofé fabric styled to move you through a seamless transition from bike to casual hanging out.  It’s a henley so there’s a classic button-up placket on the front. Pockets on the rear give you space for the little things you like to grab while on the bike.

The ArtistMary Rose Lytle is a Portland-based artist, illustrator, and community organizer whose work features prominently in the bike community. She is a co-founder of Radical Adventure Riders, an ace mechanic and wheel builder, and tackles big adventure rides with an ever-present sense of creativity and style.

This Cycle Oregon GRAVEL jersey design creates an opportunity to highlight all the essence of riding through the Trask River area. The winding gravel roads surrounded by towering trees, crossing narrow bridges that stretch over rushing streams, lush ferns growing amongst mossy rocks in the shade, and sharing space with the wildlife making their way through the miles of old logging operations.”

Joyride

The Jersey – Our Joyride jersey is a traditional style road cycling jersey but it’s sure to stand out in a group ride. Primal Wear’s lightweight, double-knit SpeedPro fabric in a Sport Cut with a full-zip front.

The Artist – We turned to Mika Rane, an illustrator, maker, and artist whose work is influenced by her formative years growing up in Mexico City. Now a Portland, Oregon resident, she draws from folk art, traditions, and playfulness: her creations are characterized by vibrant colors, bold patterns, and a sense of joyful maximalism influenced by the Old West. Yee haw!

I was imagining what someone might wear on a ride through the Wild (Pacific North) West and envisioned a jersey that mimics the intricate design of an embroidered western shirt. The centerpiece is a an Oregon Globe Mallow flower surrounded by stars. A vibrant teal green reflects the beauty of nature and a spirit of adventure.

Rally

The Jersey – Our Rally jersey is made by Primal and constructed from their lightweight, double-knit SpeedPro fabric in a Sport Cut with a full-zip front.

The Artist – You may recognize the work of Oregon-based artist Ben Woodcock, he is a staff artist for New Seasons Market and has pieces in several Deschutes Brewery locations. He is a a multidisciplinary artist, designer and educator who holds an appreciation for things that stand firm as trends come and go. (Hey, that’s Cycle Oregon, since 1988!)

For the design of the 2025 Rally jersey, Ben was inspired by the unique beauty of Crater Lake’s magnificent blue. Iconic features from the region abound on this jersey in subtle designs from The Old Man, a 30-foot fallen Hemlock tree that has roamed the lake since 1896, Wizard Island, a volcanic cinder cone at the lake’s west end, to the towering Pinnacles rock formation and Rainbow Trout swimming in the surrounding rivers.
