So it’s been forever since we’ve had a date. We have two kids, 9 and 10 years old. The best we usually get is maybe if we have an appointment while the kids are in school and we get to hang out, and dinner after they’re in bed. We wanted to get honey walnuts prawns as that a favorite of ours, and we found a place with good reviews in Bellevue, Washington called Supreme Dumplings.

I remember taking Kit to Sun Ya in Seattle way back around 15 years ago when we were first getting together. She’d never had dim sum and it was an instant favorite of hers, particularly the wide noodle and of course honey walnut prawns. They had them at this dumpling place so that’s what we picked for our first in 18 months date.

Here’s their menu (click to enlarge). We’re also a fan of soup dumplings, so we got those and I got the ‘Supreme Tan Tan Noodles.’ They had honey walnut shrimp on a seperate ‘special menu.’

So first, we’ll look at the xiao long bao.

They were tasty. Pouch was a little tough. Innards were tasty but a little extra salty. We agreed they weren’t ‘supreme’ but the were passable.

The honey walnut shrimp on the other hand were disappointment. The walnut were very, very dry and covered in what was like powdered sugar. The shrimp were coated and fried, and they were covered in a sauce that reminded Kit of honey mustard and me of Chick Fil A sauce. I thought they were a 3 out of 5 but she gave them a 1. Don’t mess around with my lady’s honey walnut prawns.

My tan tan noodle (click to enlarge). The noodle was overcooked, that’s for certain – very thick and outer was gelatinous. However the meat and veg were good and in good proportion and the peanut crush was nice. Again like the other two, they fell far short of the concept of cuisine supremacy. We were surprised at the popularity of this place and that we had to get reservations. The booth we were in was very dirty – Kit could see where someone has smeared some kind of sauce all over the seat area next to her and fingerprints galore. The water pitcher they brought out was a seriously bizarre shape – I should’ve taken pictures of that. The water glasses were metal, and the water was cool – not cold. We love Asian cuisine and this place really fell short and at best was marginal – just going through the motions with no pride. 2.0 out of 5.0 stars.
