A pedestrian was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries and a driver has been detained by police after a crash in Northeast Portland early Saturday morning, officials said.
PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) -- A pedestrian was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries and a driver has been detained by police after a crash in Northeast Portland early Saturday morning, officials said.
Just after 2:30 a.m., officers responded to the 400 block of Northeast Hassalo Street on reports of a crash.
Once on scene, police said they found a man critically injured after being hit by a passing vehicle. The man was then taken to the hospital by ambulance.
The driver involved in the crash was detained by passersby before officers arrived. Police then took him into custody for further investigation.
Officials said impairment on part of the driver was likely a contributing factor in the crash.
During the investigation, Northeast Grand Avenue was closed for about five hours, but has since reopened to traffic.
