Socks design competition for WDS

Many Dear Readers of Special Education Today know about World Down Syndrome Day, the annual event 21 March that promotes awareness of individuals with Down syndrome. Some Dear Readers may want to submit designs in the annual Lots of Socks design competition. The competition solicits designs for socks that will be used in the fund-raising efforts for World Down Syndrome Day, that effort to promote awareness and advancement for people around Earth who have trisomy of the 21st chromosome (21-3 or 3-21; get it?). Regular readers will recognize that effort because SET has reminded them about the day a few times (e.g., 2023) in these pages—or they just knew about it during the long run of WDS, which began in 2012!

The competition for designs for socks is hosted by Down Syndrome International in collaboration with the National Down Syndrome Society and the Down’s Syndrome Association.

Winners from previous years (since 2012!) may help those readers who are considering submitting some designs (see following figure; linked to pages with additional examples). Although designs submitted by individuals who have trisomy of the 21st chromosome may (I don’t know if they do) receive extra weight (a leg up?) in the competition, anyone may submit designs.
