Liverpool "made a series of calls" on Deadline Day to €70m ace with terms agreed for potential January move

Liverpool could move to sign Lamine Camara in 2027 after his move from AS Monaco to Chelsea collapsed on Deadline Day.

The Reds reportedly agreed personal terms with the 22-year-old last week and sent scouts to watch him play against PSG on Friday. Monaco beat the Ligue 1 champions 2-1, with Camara shining in midfield.

He won 12 ground duels, dominating a technically superior Paris Saint-Germain midfield. The exact kind of midfielder missing from Andoni Iraola’s midfield.

According to Ben Jacobs, writing for Give Me Sport, Liverpool could sign Camara in 2027.

Monaco were close to selling Camara to Chelsea for €55m after having three bids worth €40m, €45m and €50m rejected. The French club dropped their asking price from €70m on the final day of the window, before pulling the plug on the transfer at the 11th hour after believing that Folarin Balogun was close to joining Everton, but that move collapsed too.

Monaco sporting director Thiago Scuro is once again demanding €70m to sell Camara.

Jacobs reports: “Liverpool are another Premier League club to watch. Sources have told GMS that senior Liverpool figures made a series of calls, including on deadline day, to inform Camara he was high in their thinking for 2027 if he didn’t join Chelsea.

“Liverpool never intended to add another midfielder following the departure of Curtis Jones to Inter. The only way they would have bid for Camara over the summer is if Alexis Mac Allister had departed.

“Camara still dreams of making a move to the Premier League and leaving Monaco in January is not discounted.”

Liverpool signing Camara would be the perfect January transfer

If Liverpool had no plans to sign a new midfielder in the summer, I’m not sure why they would suddenly sign him in January, but that aside, I would love to see the 22-year-old move to Anfield.

Trey Nyoni has been promised more game time this season, and the 19-year-old is certainly ready for the step up. His cameo against Ipswich Town on Friday night proved this.

That said, Liverpool need someone like Camara to add more bite and grit to a midfield that is too often bulldozed.

Time will tell if Camara is heading to Anfield, but for now, it certainly seems as though he is under consideration to make the move to Merseyside.
