Hello Comfort Food, and hello FUNKY OUMA – I am so excited to collaborate with these flavour legends on a new series of winter favourites, from my kitchen to yours, with love! I’ve been using their clever (and cute!) products for years and love having them as a go-to in my pantry. Also, I love a family story, and theirs is particularly special thanks to their very own real life ‘Funky Ouma’ who is the inspiration behind the brand.

As with any good food story, the story of “Funky Ouma” is a heartwarming tale of culinary passion that transcends generations. The essence of “Funky Ouma” is not just in its spices but in the story it tells—a story of family, tradition, and the joy of cooking. It began with Ouma Anneke, who at 67, alongside her daughter Johannita, turned a lifetime of culinary play into a thriving business. Their products, 100% natural and vegan-friendly, are a testament to their commitment to quality and sustainability.

With a focus on convenience without compromising on taste, “Funky Ouma” offers a variety of seasonings that bring a touch of home-cooked goodness to our everyday meals, even in the hustle and bustle of today’s fast-paced world. From the Braai & Cooking Rub to the unique Black Garlic Pink Salt, each product is crafted to enhance the cooking experience, making it easier for families to enjoy flavourful dishes with a sprinkle of tradition.

The brand’s growth is a narrative of empowerment and community, resonating in kitchens across South Africa. And so, from one clever (and delicious) idea to the next, “Funky Ouma” has welcomed a little sister brand of beautiful seasonings that goes by the name of “SOUT AFRIKA” – lekker hey? “SOUT AFRIKA” continues the legacy seamlessly, infusing meals with the warmth of a grandmother’s kitchen, and making sure that the flavour of home is never too far away. It’s a lovely reminder that food is more than sustenance; it’s a connection to our roots and to each other, a blend of the past and the present, creating something deliciously timeless.

Look out for their product in all your favourite food stores, follow their story on Instagram, and happy cooking!

Sarah xx
