Growth is great, but getting it right is scary

Talking about growth is so important for a business. But it can definitely be scary.

What does growth look like is different for every entrepreneur/business. Be that keeping it to just the entrepreneur with a small support team to growing with departments and managers. It’s open to all but everyone wants and needs something slightly different.

I have written in issue 45 about this – which is full of articles written about business under the general heading of ‘Make it Flow’ as this can be very different for each business.

I speak about getting help in order to grow. Here’s the full article:

Running a business is tough, doing it all by yourself makes it doubly tough but when you think of getting help – either outsourcing to freelancers or indeed making your first/next hire – the panic can set in. Growth is great – but getting it right is scary.What if it doesn’t work, is it easier to do it myself, will they understand my business, can they actually do it like me? – so many questions which can railroad you into stopping you in your tracks.

Will the business flow – like I want it to, but better? We should always aim for it to be better when we ask for help.

So when do we ask for help – when we are at breaking point or actually when we have time to pass on our knowledge, nurture the person, integrate them into the business? This takes time, patience and selection of the right person in the beginning.

Recruiting is a time consuming process, only 1 in 4 are successful so establishing the person you want, the role they are to play and the skills they need to start with – and a development/training strategy – is essential to ensure it is the best it can be to not waste all the time and effort of both parties.

Outsourcing – working with a freelancer, or freelancing team – is a choice open to all and can open your business to someone trained, ready to step in and deliver. They are experienced in integrating quickly, learning quickly and delivering to a high standard (their business success depends on your success).
