Let’s row the longboat further along the course and hit the Vikings’ biggest storylines from Weeks 12 to 14 in 2026. Be sure to catch up on the storylines from Weeks 1-3,4-7, and 8-11 as well.
Week 12 – Falcons @ Vikings: Kevin Stefanski Returns to U.S. Bank Stadium

Kevin Stefanski left the Minnesota Vikings in 2020 to become the head coach of the Cleveland Browns. During his time in Cleveland, he faced off against the Vikings twice, notching a 1-1 record. Stefanski’s lone return journey to Minnesota came in 2021, when he actually walked out victorious by a score of 14-7.
Stefanski was relieved of his duties with the Browns earlier this offseason and is now the head coach of the Atlanta Falcons. It’s looking like Tua Tagovailoa will be their starter, at least to begin the season. By Week 12, Michael Penix Jr. could have taken back his job.
2026 will be the fourth consecutive season that the Vikings and Falcons have faced off against each other, as well as the sixth time in eight seasons. Five of those contests will have taken place at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis.
Week 13 – Panthers @ Vikings: Multiple Former Vikings Defenders in Carolina

While there aren’t many former Vikings currently on the Carolina Panthers anymore, a couple of key contributors remain. Assuming that they both make the final rosters after cutdowns, CB Akayleb Evans and EDGE Patrick Jones still get their checks signed by David Tepper.
Evans signed with the Panthers after Minnesota placed him on waivers in November of 2024. He would stick on for the rest of that season and 2025, and earned a 1-year/$1.4 million deal earlier this offseason. Jones joined the Panthers a few months after Akayleb Evans, signing on during 2025’s free agency frenzy. 2026 is the second year of a 2-year/$15 million deal that Jones signed, and he is slated to be a free agent again after this season.
It goes without saying, but this is a late-season game between two teams in the same conference. There could be playoff implications, but we can’t just make every storyline of the final games all about the playoffs, can we?
Week 14 – Vikings @ Patriots: Kevin O’Connell vs. Drake Maye in Primetime

Albert Breer is a very reliable source, and he had quite the report earlier this year.
He alleged that the Vikings “tried with all of their might to trade up for Drake Maye” because “Kevin O’Connell loved him.” Minnesota apparently tried to send three first-round selections along with pick-swaps, to which the Patriots declined. O’Connell pushed the front office to make a stronger offer, but New England wasn’t loosening their grip on Drake Maye.
Fast forward a little over two calendar years, and Minnesota is still waiting for J.J. McCarthy to show them something, and Drake Maye is coming off of a Super Bowl loss. I’d say one of those is probably better than the other.
This season, the Vikings travel to Foxborough to take on Maye and his Patriots on Thursday Night Football. It will be the first time that Kevin O’Connell has gotten a close look in the pros at the apple of his eye, QB Drake Maye.
